Facts & Links
- Over 150 rural fire districts across Oregon belong to OFDDA.
- OFDDA is a strong advocate for fire district directors; together we have a strong voice.
- OFDDA members include some of the largest and many of the smallest fire districts in Oregon. The success of Oregon’s fire service requires a team effort—on the fireground, in the board room, in the district office, and at the state legislature.
- OFDDA’s legislative staff reviews over 200 fire district-related bills each session. Thanks to our members, Oregon’s fire service has a unified and strong voice at our Capitol.
- Districts can often save the cost of membership through group insurance savings and other membership benefits. One example is the discount on SDIS Property/Casualty and Workers’ Compensation insurance policies members are eligible to receive.
- The Length of Service Award Program (LOSAP) is a benefit that provides a tool to help districts and cities retain volunteer firefighters by providing an incentive to continue service and expresses appreciation for the volunteer’s years of service.
- OFDDA members serve on many committees that shape the fire service in our state, such as the DPSST Board, Governor’s Fire Service Policy Council, SDAO Legislative Committee, National Association of Elected Fire Officials (NAEFO), and Oregon Life Safety Team, plus additional task forces that are formed from time to time.
- OFDDA provides educational opportunities throughout the state through our partnership with Special Districts Association of Oregon (SDAO); they administer the Special Districts Insurance Services (SDIS) program.
- OFDDA promotes education with scholarships for the Oregon Fire Service Conference. Check annual conference registration materials for more information.
- Member districts receive valuable information through regular issues of The Communiqué, the association’s official publication.
