Oregon Fire District Directors Association

Below is the link to the proposed DRAFT amendments to the OFDDA Bylaws. I use the word “DRAFT” because, although this document represents over a year of work by your Board of Directors, we want our membership to have the opportunity to review the proposed changes and provide input at the November Joint Conference. Motions from the Floor for further amendments are acceptable so if there are changes you would like to see, those suggestions will be entertained. The purpose of making these changes is that our membership is showing more interest in the Board and our elections are becoming more competitive. This is the sign of a healthy organization. The proposed amendments provide clear direction in the election process, as well as other areas of governing your organization. I would like to especially recognize and thank Director Don Trotter of Clackamas Fire District 1 for overseeing the process of updating our Bylaws. I look forward to seeing you in November.

Management & Policy Resource Guide for Fire Districts (formerly known as The Board Members’ Guide)

Published in cooperation with the Special Districts Association of Oregon (2009 edition available), the Resource Guide is a valuable tool developed to assist district board members and chief officers with the operation of the districts they serve. At its June 23^rd meeting, the OFDDA Board of Directors has voted to endorse Appendix P as of the 2008 Oregon Residential Specialty Code. This action will provide communities with local control over their fire protection needs by giving them authority to require residential fire sprinkler systems in new home construction. The Board asks that you support this effort through your boards, commissions, city councils, fire chiefs, associations, and community partners. Please download and sign the resolution supporting the adoption of Appendix P as amended in the 2008 Residential Specialty Code. Thank you for your support of this life safety issue.
